I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in 2019 Chopper Swim Challenge.
Soo it’s been well documented that I am super scared of ocean swimming... I am a lot better this season but I still have to consciously block out all the scary creatures that lurk below me. But I’ve decided, as of a couple of weeks ago, I’m going to do the chopper swim solo.... 20km - Waiheke to Auckland (Parnell Baths)... 18 MARCH!!!!! It’s going to take anywhere betw 5-7hrs. This is what happens when u hang around and train with people who see something in u that u don’t, plant a little seed (Mike Cochrane) and introduce me to long distance swimming. They get excited by these sort of swims and it’s infectious.
The chopper swim is a fundraiser swim to support Auckland Rescue helicopter trust.... everyone has to raise as much money as they can (record raised is 7k for a solo swimmer). Big shout out to Sam Durrant who is going to be my kayaker and Chris Kidd who is my support boat... without them I wouldn’t be able to swim 😘. I’m also doing it to prove to myself that I can do anything when I put my mind to it. I have to let go of that fear and self doubt and just do it!!! Please please please help me raise as much money as possible (hopefully I can take out that record for the most money raised by a solo swimmer 7k in a week 🙏) and I will do my very best to smash that swim and be one of the front female solo swimmers (it’s not a race though).
You may be familiar with the work Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust do in the community, but what you probably do not know is that ARHT now go to over 1000 missions a year. In 2017 alone, they flew an incredible 1038 missions througho ut the Greater Auckland and Coromandel regions. This is an incredible mission workload for their two helicopters and crews.
ARHT’s moto is Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter really is a charity that anyone may need They help people of any age, gender and nationality, wherever they can get to them, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Although the average mission costs around $5000, this community service is 100% free of charge thanks to the goodwill and generosity of community members like you.
Without your support they simply cannot fly, or save lives.
